Why I Love Gardening and Sunday Morning Coffee - MY 100 YEAR OLD HOME (1)

I just finished a huge gardening project. And I am so excited it is that time of year when we can imagine a beautiful garden soon.

I love writing my weekly Sunday Morning Coffee post. This is not only a place to share, learn, explain, dream, and have fun. It’s a place for me to share the things that genuinely make me happy.

About Me

Why I Love Gardening and Sunday Morning Coffee - MY 100 YEAR OLD HOME (5)

Tomorrow I am sharing my finished kitchen garden! It’s been a lot of work and I have learned so much. It’s the first time I have spent this much time planning out my four raised garden beds. And I a pretty sure the result is going to be quite fruitful.

I cannot wait to share everything with you tomorrow.

For a very long time, I have described my gardening skills as mediocre. And why was that? Because I hadn’t taken the time to educate myself about gardening. I know it sounds pretty obvious, but I was what I would refer to as a spur-of-the-moment gardener.

I would decide it was time to garden (which was based on no research of the right time to plant or what to plant) and I would race off to a big box store and buy the biggest plants I could find. Immediately I would plant them in the ground, based on what I read on the label.

Usually, my efforts led to a short-lived garden with little success. And I know why.

I didn’t take the time to do my homework to educate myself to plan the right garden with the right plants at the right time.

Seems pretty simple, right?

I am pleased to say that my new kitchen garden was one of the most researched and thought-out projects I have done in a long time.

I can’t wait to share it with you tomorrow!

My Latest Project

Why I Love Gardening and Sunday Morning Coffee - MY 100 YEAR OLD HOME (11)

It’s time for me to start painting again.

Wait, what?

Many of you likely aren’t aware that I was a full-time artist before I started this blog. I taught painting classes throughout the US and painted seascapes and abstract paintings for years.

One of my favorite projects was when I painted 30 abstract paintings in 30 days which were inspired by garments created on one of my favorite shows, Project Runway.

Here are some of the paintings I created and the outfits that inspired them.

This project was so much fun. I sold most of the paintings and got some notice and PR from my favorite show of all time, Project Runway.

So what will I be painting now that I have announced to you all that I am going to start painting again?

Abstract paintings for the beach house.

I already have the canvases and they are big.

My first painting will be a series of paintings for the large empty wall in our primary bedroom.

(As you might have guessed I am telling all of you about this project on purpose so please hold me accountable for painting these paintings!)

Wish me luck.

If you love abstract paintings as much as I do, here are some well-priced options.

My Biggest Challenge This Week

Why I Love Gardening and Sunday Morning Coffee - MY 100 YEAR OLD HOME (37)

Now that I have planted our vegetable and herb garden, aka my Kitchen Garden, it’s time to tackle the plants on our back patio, and the back and front flower beds of our house.

To say I am overwhelmed is a huge understatement.

My garden in the photo below currently looks nothing like this. It is a mess. and needs a do-over.
