I am a big Rumi fan and I’ve shared other Rumi quotes before, but today I want to focus on Rumi quotes about LOVE.
Everyday is a day to love, treasure, and cherish ourselves, those around us, and everything around us.
And these Rumi quotes have really helped me have a deeper understanding of what love is.
Rumi Quotes About Love
I learned so much from these Rumi quotes, and I’ll share my thoughts on each, but I do want you to ponder, analyze, and reflect on them, so you can come to your own conclusions.
“Only from the heart can you touch the sky.” ~ Rumi
You know how they say “the sky’s the limit”? I believe Rumi is saying here that you can only live up to your potential when you live from the heart.
What “living from the heart” means to me is to strive to make love the center of everything we do.
“Wherever you are, and whatever you do, be in love.” ~ Rumi
Deciding to be in a state of love wherever and whenever and whatever we do can be so hard when someone or something annoys, frustrates, and bother us.
And yet, there is always something to learn from that person or situation, which can be such a blessing that it is difficult to not love the teacher.
“Your heart knows the way. Run in that direction.” ~ Rumi
They say “follow your heart, but take your head with you.”
When you’ve been through trauma, abuse, or gaslighting, it is hard to trust your heart, to trust yourself and your intuition.
It takes courage to follow your passions and even to admit or acknowledge that you are even allowed to have passions, goals, and dreams.
I am learning to run in the direction of my dreams when I can, and embracing the times when all I can do is take a tiny step toward them.

When we’re in a state of love, we attract what we desire – so raising to the frequency of love is really going toward what we want.
When we allow love to be our guide, we can really navigate life in an easier way and actually enjoy the journey.

This Rumi quote gave me freedom to understand that love is not chaotic or anxiety-inducing, it is a state of peace that makes your heart smile.
If you feel that something or someone is stressing you out, it may be a sign for you to carefully study.
Yes, we can learn from people that push our buttons and trigger us; however, you are allowed to seek that and those which put a smile on your face.

Self-love is the foundation of all love, because we radiate love from the inside and pour it out onto others.
It’s a cycle – and as we love ourselves, we have the ability to love others, and the kinder, more patient, and more compassionate we are to others, the more we fall in love with ourselves.

Well, they say that love is blind, so it makes complete sense that closing our eyes is a step to fall in love.
Jokes aside, what came to my heart as I read this Rumi quote was really how I overlooked many faults and frustrating traits from people when I was under the attraction spell – whether romantic or not.
I closed my eyes, fell in love, but didn’t stay there. I opened my eyes and I saw them as less than the lovely people I had seen in the beginning.
I’m not suggesting that I should go back to those relationships or friendships, but what I am saying is that I do love them and see their loveliness again, because I am feeling with my heart, rather than focusing on what I see with my eyes.

Love is our core, our nature, our essence, our origin, and our destiny.
Love is inevitable.
Sometimes choosing love takes effort, because fear has built walls that keep love dormant, but as we take them down, we are free to be love again.
According to Philip-Beck’s comment, this quote is misattributed to Rumi. He claims that it actually came from A Course in Miracles (ACIM) in Chapter 16, Section 4, paragraph 6. It states:
“Your task is not to seek for love, but merely to seek and find all of the barriers within yourself that you have built against it. It is not necessary to seek for what is true, but it is necessary to seek for what is false. Every illusion is one of fear, whatever form it takes. And the attempt to escape from one illusion into another must fail. If you seek love outside yourself you can be certain that you perceive hatred within, and are afraid of it. Yet peace will never come from the illusion of love, but only from its reality.”
“Let your teacher be love itself.” ~ Rumi
As children, learn from our parents, our school teachers, and our activity leaders, but what if we actually grew up believing that love could be our teacher?
Because of this Rumi quote, I’m going to start asking myself: “If love were my teacher right now, what would it say I could do?”

Laughter is medicine and love heals.
This one is so obvious, and yet, a great reminder!

This Rumi quote had me wondering: “What do I find beautiful?”
And then I would BE that!!!
Be like a baby, be like nature… What would you be and do?

This one feels so wonderful because it gives us permission to just go with what we love.

Soulful means “expressive of deep feeling or emotion.”
LOVE is a force that exists in each of us and that needs to be expressed and our kindness is the best vehicle for that.

The nonsense continues to be shaken off of me and for this, I am grateful.
I want to be open to this process… always.

As we become more of what we came to be, we embody love.

This is similar from the definition of love from 1 Corinthians 13 in the Bible.
Love is a giver, a sharer, a contributor… and we can be that too.

Rumi was such a wise poet and his words so beautiful and piercing.
Love is like a superpower that can make the impossible happen.

We are all learning in this path to love, so staying open is required.
Humility is a great virtue that gets us closer to love.

Did you know that smiling can shift your attitude?
Someone once pointed out that I smile through everything as if it was bad… but this Rumi quote liberated me from that misjudgment.
Like our friend Buddy the Elf would say: “Smiling’s my favorite!”
“This is a subtle truth. Whatever you love, you are.” ~ Rumi
This Rumi quote can be a bit of a puzzle or a big ouch.
If we are what we love and we must love everyone and everything, then we are really one.

This can be a powerful affirmation for when things are not going as planned or expected.
I’m sure we can think as moments when that we believe couldn’t be made glorious, but I guess it’s at least worth a try! Right?

I didn’t think time and love were competitors.
But reading this quote helped me remember that how I invest my time is a choice and that I want to choose love.

Breakup, distance, death… It all means separation in this realm we call Earth.
And yet, I have experienced, by contrast, that these events can actually unite us, if we look with the right perspective.

I am now committed to explore these 3 areas, so that love and life can be heaven.

Fear, hatred, and resentment all cause distress and disease.
Love is a balm for the spirit, the mind, and the body, and the more, the better.

I see this quote as a great reminder for times when we have a broken heart!
If I’m honest, each heartbreak has truly helped me become more loving, compassionate, and considerate of myself and others.

This teaches us that when we look at people with our heart, we can see nothing but ourselves. It’s all a projection!

Jesus said that LOVE is the sign that someone is a student of His work and a follower of His word. He taught that we must love even our enemies (because then there are no enemies!).
So today, my prayer is that each day, I can consciously access the Divine Love inside me and allow it to flow as an expression that is palpable to myself and all around me…
