The Quran speaks about love in several different contexts. Allah is Al-Wadud, The Most Loving (الودود), and the love of Allah should be the foundation of all other forms of love. Below are all Quranic verses that refer to love in order (as shown in the Quran, not in order of revelation.)

Al-Fatiha

1. In the Name of Allah—the Most Compassionate, Most Merciful. (Surah Al-Fatiha, 1:1)

2. the Most Compassionate, Most Merciful, (Surah Al-Fatiha, 1:3)

Al-Baqarah

3. And when We took your covenant and raised the mountain above you ˹saying˺, “Hold firmly to that ˹Scripture˺ which We have given you and obey,” they answered, “We hear and disobey.” The love of the calf was rooted in their hearts because of their disbelief. Say, ˹O Prophet,˺ “How evil is what your ˹so-called˺ belief prompts you to do, if you ˹actually˺ believe ˹in the Torah˺!” (Surah Al-Baqarah, 2:93)

4. Still there are some who take others as Allah’s equal—they love them as they should love Allah—but the ˹true˺ believers love Allah even more. (Surah Al-Baqarah, 2:165)

5. Fight in the cause of Allah ˹only˺ against those who wage war against you, but do not exceed the limits.1 Allah does not like transgressors.(Surah Al-Baqarah, 2:190)

6. Spend in the cause of Allah and do not let your own hands throw you into destruction ˹by withholding˺. And do good, for Allah certainly loves the good-doers. (Surah Al-Baqarah, 2:195)

7. Perhaps you dislike something which is good for you and like something which is bad for you. Allah knows and you do not know. (Surah Al-Baqarah, 2:216)

8. Surely Allah loves those who always turn to Him in repentance and those who purify themselves. (Surah Al-Baqarah, 2:222)

Ali ‘Imran

9. Beautified for people is the love of that which they desire—women, children, treasures of gold and silver, fine horses, cattle, and fertile land—has been made appealing to people. These are the pleasures of this worldly life, but with Allah is the finest destination. (Surah Ali ‘Imran 3:14)

10. Say, ˹O Prophet,˺ “If you ˹sincerely˺ love Allah, then follow me; Allah will love you and forgive your sins. (Surah Ali ‘Imran 3:31)

11. Absolutely! Those who honor their trusts and shun evil—surely Allah loves those who are mindful ˹of Him˺. (Surah Ali ‘Imran 3:76)

12. Here you are! You love them but they do not love you, and you believe in all Scriptures. When they meet you they say, “We believe.” But when alone, they bite their fingertips in rage. Say, ˹O Prophet,˺ “˹May you˺ die of your rage!” Surely Allah knows best what is ˹hidden˺ in the heart. (Surah Ali ‘Imran 3:119)

13. They are˺ those who donate in prosperity and adversity, control their anger, and pardon others. And Allah loves the good-doers. (Surah Ali ‘Imran 3:134)

14. Imagine˺ how many devotees fought along with their prophets and never faltered despite whatever ˹losses˺ they suffered in the cause of Allah, nor did they weaken or give in! Allah loves those who persevere. (Surah Ali ‘Imran 3:146)

15. So Allah gave them the reward of this world and the excellent reward of the Hereafter. For Allah loves the good-doers. (Surah Ali ‘Imran 3:148)

16. It is out of Allah’s mercy that you ˹O Prophet˺ have been lenient with them. Had you been cruel or hard-hearted, they would have certainly abandoned you. So pardon them, ask Allah’s forgiveness for them, and consult with them in ˹conducting˺ matters. Once you make a decision, put your trust in Allah. Surely Allah loves those who trust in Him. (Surah Ali ‘Imran 3:159)

17. Do not let those who rejoice in their misdeeds and love to take credit for what they have not done think they will escape torment. They will suffer a painful punishment. (Surah Ali ‘Imran 3:188)

Al-Ma’idah

18. But for breaking their covenant We condemned them and hardened their hearts. They distorted the words of the Scripture and neglected a portion of what they had been commanded to uphold. You ˹O Prophet˺ will always find deceit on their part, except for a few. But pardon them and bear with them. Indeed, Allah loves the good-doers. (Surah Al-Ma’idah 5:13)

19. But if you judge between them, then do so with justice. Surely Allah loves those who are just. (Surah Al-Ma’idah 5:42)

20. O believers! Whoever among you abandons their faith, Allah will replace them with others who love Him and are loved by Him. They will be humble with the believers but firm towards the disbelievers, struggling in the Way of Allah; fearing no blame from anyone (Surah Al-Ma’idah 5:54)

21. There is no blame on those who believe and do good for what they had consumed before ˹the prohibition˺, as long as they fear Allah, have faith, and do what is good; then they believe and act virtuously, then become fully mindful ˹of Allah˺ and do righteous deeds. For Allah loves the good-doers. (Surah Al-Ma’idah 5:93)

Al-An’am

22. When the night grew dark upon him, he saw a star and said, “This is my Lord!” But when it set, he said, “I do not love things that set.” (Surah Al-An’am 6:76)

At-Tawbah

23. As for the polytheists who have honoured every term of their treaty with you and have not supported an enemy against you, honour your treaty with them until the end of its term. Surely Allah loves those who are mindful ˹of Him˺. (Surah At-Tawbah 9:4)

24. How can such polytheists have a treaty with Allah and His Messenger, except those you have made a treaty with at the Sacred Mosque? So, as long as they are true to you, be true to them. Indeed Allah loves those who are mindful ˹of Him˺. (Surah At-Tawbah 9:7)

Hud

25. So seek your Lord’s forgiveness and turn to Him in repentance. Surely my Lord is Most Merciful, All-Loving. (Surah Al-Hud, 11:90)

Yusuf

26. Some women of the city gossiped, “The Chief Minister’s wife is trying to seduce her slave-boy. Love for him has plagued her heart. Indeed, we see that she is clearly mistaken.” (Surah Yusuf, 12:30)

27. She said, “This is the one for whose love you criticized me! I did try to seduce him but he ˹firmly˺ refused. And if he does not do what I order him to, he will certainly be imprisoned and ˹fully˺ disgraced.”(Surah Yusuf, 12:32)

Maryam

28. As for those who believe and do good, the Most Compassionate will ˹certainly˺ bless them with ˹genuine˺ love. (Surah Maryam, 19:96)

An-Nur

29. Indeed, those who love to see indecency spread among the believers will suffer a painful punishment in this life and the Hereafter. Allah knows and you do not know. (Surah An-Nur, 24:19)

30. Do not let the people of virtue and affluence among you swear to suspend donations to their relatives, the needy, and the emigrants in the cause of Allah. Let them pardon and forgive. Do you not love to be forgiven by Allah? And Allah is All-Forgiving, Most Merciful.(Surah An-Nur, 24:22)

An-Naml

31. It is from Solomon, and it reads: ‘In the Name of Allah—the Most Compassionate, Most Merciful. (Surah An-Naml, 27:30)

Sad

32. He then proclaimed, “I am truly in love with ˹these˺ fine things out of remembrance for Allah,” until they went out of sight. (Surah Sad, 38:32)

Al-Hujurat

33. And if two groups of believers fight each other, then make peace between them. But if one of them transgresses against the other, then fight against the transgressing group until they ˹are willing to˺ submit to the rule of Allah. If they do so, then make peace between both ˹groups˺ in all fairness and act justly. Surely Allah loves those who uphold justice. (Surah Al-Hujurat, 49:9)

Al-Hashr

34. As for those who had settled in the city and ˹embraced˺ the faith before ˹the arrival of˺ the emigrants, they love whoever immigrates to them, never having a desire in their hearts for whatever ˹of the gains˺ is given to the emigrants. They give ˹the emigrants˺ preference over themselves even though they may be in need. And whoever is saved from the selfishness of their own souls, it is they who are ˹truly˺ successful. (Surah Al-Hashr, 59:9)

Al-Mumtahanah

35. Allah does not forbid you from dealing kindly and fairly with those who have neither fought nor driven you out of your homes. Surely Allah loves those who are fair. (Surah Al-Mumtahanah, 60:8)

Al-Waqi’ah

36. loving and of equal age, (Surah Al-Waqi’ah, 56:37)

As-Saf

37. Surely Allah loves those who fight in His cause in ˹solid˺ ranks as if they were one concrete structure. (Surah As-Saf, 61:4)

38. And (He will give) another (favor) that you love: help from Allah and an imminent victory. ˹So˺ give good news ˹O Prophet˺ to the believers. (Surah As-Saf, 61:13)

Al-Qiyamah

39. But no! In fact, you love this fleeting world, (Surah Al-Qiyamah, 75:20)

Al-Insan

40. And they give food in spite of love for it to the poor, the orphan, and the captive, (Surah Al-Insan, 76:8)

41. Saying to themselves, “We feed you only for the countenance of Allah. We wish not from you the reward or gratitude.(Surah Al-Insan, 76:9)

42. Surely those ˹pagans˺ love this fleeting world, ˹totally˺ neglecting a weighty Day ahead of them. (Surah Al-Insan, 76:27)

Al-Buruj

43. And He is the All-Forgiving, All-Loving (Surah Al-Buruj, 85:14)

Al-Fajr

44. and love wealth fervently. (Surah Al-Fajr, 89:20)

Al-‘Adiyat

45. and they are truly extreme in their love of ˹worldly˺ gains. (Surah Al-‘Adiyat, 100:8)
