For one night next week, more than 20 New York City art galleries will open their doors to the public as part of the annual Chelsea Gallery Walk. Hosted by the Art Dealers Association of America (ADAA), the free self-guidedwalk takes place on July 20 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at 22member galleries throughout Chelsea, providing a unique opportunity to see world-class art after-hours. In addition to enjoying the latest exhibitions on display, there will also be a selection of special programming.

ADAA consists of approximately 200 member galleries located in 30 cities across the country, with 43 located in the Chelsea neighborhood alone.
Some of the participantsin this year’s walk include David Kordansky, Garth Greenan, Jack Shainman, and Sikkema Jenkins & Co. A highlight of the event is Kasmin’s rooftop sculpture garden,which will feature the gallery’s first outdoor exhibition of work by French sculptors Les Lalanne.
The Chelsea Gallery Walk special programming includes the following:
- Nohra Haime Gallery, 7:00 p.m.: Guided walkthrough by Julie Hedrick of her exhibition LIFE; music composed for the exhibition by Peter Wetzler.
- Susan Inglett Gallery, 6:00-8:00 p.m.: Serving delicious Korean snacks; artist Woomin Kim will be present.
- David Kordansky Gallery, 6:00-8:00 p.m.: Reception with refreshments.
- Yossi Milo Gallery, 7:00 p.m.: Exhibition walkthrough followed by a Q&A; artists Emily Mullin and Daniel Gordon will be present.
- Ricco/Maresca Gallery, 6:00 p.m.: A guided walkthrough led by Phong H. Bui and Cal Mckeever, curators of the exhibition Singing In Unison: Artists Need To Create On The Same Scale That Society Has The Capacity To Destroy (Part 4); followed by a reception with refreshments.
- Nara Roesler, 6:00-8:00 p.m.: Reception with refreshments for the gallery’s current exhibition, The Fold in the Horizon curated by Marcos Chaves, and book party for Abraham Palatnik’s new monograph, Enchantment / Experimentation published by Nara Roesler Books. Copies will be available for purchase.
- Mary Ryan Gallery, 6:00-8:00 p.m.: A reception with refreshments.
- Washburn Gallery 6:00-8:00 p.m.: artist JoAnne Carson will be present.

Interview: Famous photojournalist Steve McCurry on authenticity, truth, and trust in today’s world

As the spring arts season awakens, an exhibition of note will be ending its run at the Cavalier Galleries in Chelsea: Now through March 30, take the opportunity to experience work by American photojournalist Steve McCurry. As one of our most celebrated contemporary photographers, McCurry is best known for his unforgettable portrait of 12-year-old Afghan refugee Sharbat Gula, the "Afghan Girl" who gazed from the cover of National Geographic magazine in 1985. The current solo exhibition marks the release of McCurry’s new book, "Devotion: Love and Spirituality" (Prestel, 2024). The show features over 30 photos that span more than four decades, captured during McCurry's visits to Cuba, Ethiopia, India, Myanmar, Pakistan, the Philippines, and Tibet. The images are both timeless and current, featuring human struggles and daily lives.

Rubin Museum’s final exhibition to open in March

New York City's Rubin Museum has announced its final exhibition before it closes its doors this fall. The museum-wide exhibition, called "Reimagine: Himalayan Art Now," juxtaposes the works of 32 contemporary artists from the Himalayas, Asia, and diaspora against existing items in the museum's collection, offering viewers new ways to interpret traditional Himalayan art. The exhibition will be on view from March 15 through October 6.

Rubin Museum to close its doors after two decades

Known for its Himalayan art, New York City's Rubin Museum will close this fall after 20 years. The Rubin Museum of Art on Wednesday announced the museum will evolve into a global institution "without walls" and close its Chelsea building on October 6 after its final exhibition. After selling its building on West 17th Street, the Rubin will become an organization that processes long-term loans, hosts traveling exhibitions, and helps with research inquiries and fundraising, according to the New York Times.

Another Yayoi Kusama exhibition will be on view in NYC this summer

Banu Cennetoğlu, "right?"The High Line is reviewing proposals forits next two art installations and is asking the public for feedback. The Plinth, part of the elevated park's newest section, the Spur, which opened last year, is dedicated space for public art, visible from the street at 30th Street and 10th Avenue. Eighty nominated artists have submitted proposals to be considered for the third and fourth Plinth commissions and now you can providecomments for each on the park's website.

High Line Nine galleries transform into socially-distanced ‘living storefronts’

As New York City slowly reopens with some semblance of normalcy, art galleries are also returning. Earlier this month, the High Line Nine introduced a newinitiative that transforms five of its galleries into "living storefronts." The High Line Nine Artist Residency, titled "Dare to Reimagine," allows visitors to walk through the corridor in Chelsea and view artists at work through glass-walled studios. And all works on display will be available for purchase through scannable QR-codes on-site.
